Project Details

With bold plans to maximise green energy potential, BrewDog decided to implement AD for the waste organics out of the brewery processes at Ellon. Green Gas Solutions became involved to help assess options for the export of biomethane and were ultimately appointed to deliver the grid entry infrastructure. This appointment included the supply of a custom grid entry unit to GGS’ own design. Said design took all of the learnings from our previous projects and cherry-picked the best equipment and system components on the market. The grid entry unit was not only built with resilience in mind, but it was designed to be more easily maintainable and supportable during operation (without extensive reliance on third party OEMs).

Our remit in the implementation phase included the installation, integration and commissioning of the grid entry infrastructure, along with oversight on the end-to-end biomethane upgrading process. We also managed the safe and successful construction of the export pipeline to connect to the local SGN MP network.

The outcome for BrewDog was excellent, with gas-to-grid, CNG fuelling and CHP systems all commissioned for maximum benefit from their AD facility. Since commissioning, we have been maintaining the GEU on site to ensure it continues to perform optimally.

Green Gas Solutions’ expertise ensured:

  • Timely deployment of a custom designed grid entry unit to enable high availability and access to the grid for export.
  • Full integration with the upstream (BUU and AD) processes.
  • Successful gas to grid commissioning during a very busy period on the wider AD site.
